On July 26, the Japan Cartoonists Society announced that the Grand Prize in the Comic category of the 50th Japan Cartoonists Society Awards went to “Demon Slayer:Kimetsu no Yaiba” by Koyoharu Gotoge, and the Grand Prize in the Cartoon category went to “NEW NORMAL!” by Joruju Piroshki. The prize money is 500,000 yen each. The selection committee stated that the reason for the selection of “Demon Slayer:Kimetsu no Yaiba” was, “We would like to pay tribute to this passionate and moving work that has shown that manga can move the hearts of so many people.”

The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award went to the “Arise and Spill Project,” an art project to support the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, in which manga artists from the association participated in painting. Kenzo Takada, a fashion designer who passed away last year, was one of the initiators of the project, and it is said to be in memory of him.
